Short Term Accommodation
A review of visitor accommodation activities has recently been completed and the rules that enable and manage the activity have changed as a result.
The new district plan rules on visitor accommodation came into legal effect on 21 March 2019. After this date, any new residential visitor accommodation (RVA) or homestay activity will have to comply with the new district plan provisions or obtain resource consent. These new rules do not affect existing consents issued, or registrations applied for, prior to 21 March 2019.
Any person who made a submission on the notified rules can appeal the decisions through the Environment Court. The appeal period will run for 30 days from 21 March - 7 May 2019. During this period, both the existing and new rules will need to be complied with.
In the event that appeals are received, both the existing and new rules will need to be complied with. This situation will apply until any appeals are resolved. People who want to establish new RVA or Homestay activities during this time may have to obtain consent under one or both sets of rules.
The new rules require you to ‘notify’ QLDC of the activity prior to it commencing. We will accept registering through the QLDC website as providing appropriate notification at this time.
